and finally … Can targets be used to motivate and provide incentives for your staff?

On careful consideration, the answer is yes… and no!  It all depends on your business and what you choose as KPIs (key performance indicators).

Just imagine your run a pest control company.  You may decide to pay a bonus based upon the number of the little critters caught or appropriately dispatched.  On the other hand, we have all heard the stories of the over-zealous car clamping operatives.  And of course, a beer taster might need to be motivated by something other than volume consumed.
