Dicrimination awards rise
Employment Tribunal awards for discrimination compensation rose to over £8m in 2009.
The average award is the highest it has ever been, at £20.910, compared to £17,099 in 2008. The median award (midpoint of all awards) was £7,806, lower than in 2008.
The high average figure was due to 14 awards that were over £100,000, including two awards of around £500,000 and one at £750,000.
These figures include awards for injury to feelings and fur future loss of earnings.
