Do employers welcome flexible working legislation?

A small survey of employers and employees found that just over half were in favour of planned legislation, but nearly 40% are ‘bracing themselves’ for the impact it may have on budgets.

Support for flexible working appears to be based on the belief that it is helpful for employees, but is not key to the success of the business.  Employees are enthusiastic about having the option for flexible working and their loyalty to their employer is improved by the possibility that it is available, particularly when pay freezes are in place.  So while it may not offer obvious benefits to your business, the introduction of flexible working options may well be the route to better staff retention and the consequent reduction in costs.
