Ramadan restrictions
Ramadan restrictions may be affecting school children in Staffordshire this year following guidance issued by Stoke on Trent City Council.  It suggests that since swimming poses a high risk of swallowing water, and so breaking the fast required during Ramadan, and to “remove barriers to full participation” swimming lessons should not be held from 11 August for 30 days.
Other adjustments suggested are the re-scheduling of sex education classes (to avoid sexual thoughts) and the changing of exam timings to account for the disrupted sleep of pupils who get up before dawn to eat.  The council said “The overriding consideration should be that children do not feel disadvantaged in school activities because of their religious observance”.
Here at Hardwick HR we are wondering if any businesses feel the need to make similar adjustments to accommodate their employees?  Please do let us know what you think.
