Working past retirement age
The number of people working past state retirement age forecast to double.
A survey of over 700 financial directors of UK companies conducted by Prudential Insurance found that they expect the number of people working past retirement age to rise significantly over the next ten years, to an average of 6.3% of the workforce (currently 2.9%).
Larger firms expect the greatest increase, as do companies in the North who expect that 16.2% of their staff will work past the statutory retirement age, compare with 2.4% in Greater London and the SE.
The Statutory retirement age may rise for men and women but as health and longevity improve it is likely that people will try to provide financially for themselves in retirement by working for longer and delaying drawing any pension they have.
