Workplace Mental Health Initiative
One in ten workers have seen a doctor about stress and mental health problems caused by the pressures of the recession on their workplace according to a survey by Mind, the mental health charity.  As a result the charity has launched ‘Taking Care of Business’ a five year campaign to educate employers and employees about absenteeism related to mental health problems and how to create a workplace that sustains mental health.
Rather than just trying to avoid hiring people who may have a problem, Mind’s advice suggests steps employers can take to protect the mental health of their existing workforce. Small changes to your business now could wind up cutting the costs such as staff turnover, productivity and lost working days by 30 per cent.
You can download the Mind employers’ guide here for information on improving staff wellbeing, good practice examples and a template policy covering the principles of addressing mental health at work and how to put a plan in place.
Hardwick HR can also offer a Stress Policy personalised to your business.
